There are a number of things that may pop into your mind when you hear the word "psychic." Crystal balls, hoop earrings, long flowing skirts, Jamaican accents...the list goes on. But can people really be psychic?
Most people go through their day to day lives and have a limited number of occurrences where they knew things without explanation. But what about when those occurrences happen too frequently to be ignored?
There are people who possess certain psychic abilities. Some of these people have one ability, others have more. Some of the more common psychic abilities include:
- Aura Reading- perception of the energy fields surrounding people, places and things
- Automatic Writing- writing produced without conscious thought
- Clairvoyance- perception outside the human senses
- Empathic Abilities- ability to sense and experience the feelings of others
- Divination- gaining insight into a situation via a ritual
- Precognition- perception of events before they happen
- Mediumship- ability to mediate communications between our world and the spirit world
The list above is not all inclusive. However, it is a short list of some of the abilities that I have witnessed first hand. How about you? Do you have any abilities to add to the list?
Psychic abilities run deep in our family. One of those things we don't often discuss, cause...well it's real.
ReplyDeleteI have the least of it. I think it's because there is always so much clutter in my brain, I'm rarely quiet enough with myself to connect to anything relating to the psychic world. But it's reared its ugly head a few times, and truthfully I'm better off without it.
I know there are some things that have come up in my family as well, but most of my family members don't like to think of the paranormal. Of course, I love the paranormal! I embrace my abilities and will discover a new one every now and then. Some of my best friends are rather intuitive as well.
DeleteThe experiences I've had include seeing ghosts, visitations by deceased loved ones in dreams, deja vu so powerful I can predict what's going to happen next, knowing who is on the phone when it rings (without caller i.d.!), and I've known people who can read minds (like "what number am I thinking of) and sense a color by touching it when their eyes are closed. I'd love to hear if anyone has ever witnessed or experienced telekinesis - moving things with their mind.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Kristi!
I've witnessed those abilities too, Chris. I must admit, when I was younger, I tried to see if I had the power of telekinesis! It was during a time when I couldn't understand why I felt so different than everyone else around me. I found that I did not possess that ability....
DeleteThey definitely run in my family. My mother always knows when someone is sick ... even those truly distant relatives.
ReplyDeleteOnce at Lilith Fair in the late 1990s, my group left me on the blanket because well, I needed to sit down. Anyway, after a half hour of them walking around, I started chanting my friend Stephen's name in my head. Guess what? Within five minutes, he and the crew were back because he said he could hear me calling. (One of my favorite stories!).
That IS an awesome story! I can do similar things with a couple of my friends, but not all of them. One of the abilities I'm stronger with is knowing how people are feeling as soon as they walk into a room....They dont even have to look at me or say a word!
ReplyDeleteI have had my tarot cards read a few times and actually have a deck of my own. When friends ask me how they "work" or what they're all about, I tell them that it's not so much about predicting the future or psychic ability but about providing some insight into their current situation and directing them toward a solution. Every single time I've read the cards for friends or for myself, they seem to have their own knowledge of the person at focus and the universe. I'm not sure if this could be attributed to any psychic ability (if so, it's definitely subconscious) or if it's some kind of outside force directing the most meaningful/relevant cards to surface.
ReplyDeleteAs for paranormal experiences, I have never seen anything but I have felt that "I'm not alone" or "someone's watching me" feeling many times in a few of our past residences. When I was younger living in my father's house, I messed around with a Ouija board a few times with friends. Once, when I was by myself in my bedroom, I decided to try it again. The "spirit" never answered me or said anything, but always moved the plastic piece off the board and toward my closet. It could have been the power of persuasion, but I was alone and with only the lightest touch on the plastic piece which felt like it was moving very quickly in that direction every time. My husband doesn't believe that it was anything other than my mind playing tricks, but it scared me away from using a Ouija board ever again.
I have also experienced my pets staring at the wall, a closet, or up the stairs as if someone were there when there was no one, and the cat used to make the most horrible meow (the way she would when she saw another cat out the window) for up to 10 minutes at a time in the middle of the night when she was standing in the middle of the stairs (where she could see out no windows..). That used to scare the crap out of me.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to talk with someone else that uses the Tarot! I've got three decks of my own and like each deck for a different reason. You are correct, the cards will let you know about things that you've never thought of before. They are a tool used for divination, which is a psychic ability. If you don't believe me, try another method of divination. I'm sure you won't be able to use every method! As for Ouija boards, I too have played the game with friends in the past. I could tell you stories. But like you, I'll never use one again! Pets are very intuitive and can pick up on things we mere humans can't. Cats just may be the most intuitive of all animals.
